On joining the EU Spain suspended it's territorial claim to Gibraltar and opened the border.
Now that Westminster seems hell bent on dragging Gibraltar ( and Scotland) out of an EU to which Gibraltar (and Scotland) voted to remain it should be no surprise that on Brexit Spain will close the border and renew it's territorial claim.
Old vampires like Michael Howard are now discussing war with Spain. This used to be called "sabre-rattling". The warmongers should (and do) know that the Royal Navy wouldn't have a hope defending Gibraltar short of nuking Madrid so run down is it's non-WMD capability.
The mainstay surface ship Type 45 Destroyers keep breaking down. Perhaps they could be towed to Gibraltar to act as a deterrent? They were so unreliable they had to be withdrawn from the "Falkland" Islands. They were also plagued with propulsion problems in the Gulf.
Given the impotence of Westminster to actually threaten another NATO member, what will be their preferred outcome?
A compromise will be planned in Whitehall. Spain will look the other way on Gibraltar and Westminster will grant access to Scottish fishing grounds. So much for Jimmy Buchan the Skipper and former failed Tory candidate (something the BBC don't tell you) railing on about Brexit being good for Scottish Fishers and their communities.
They'll be the first to be given away by Westminster as a concession.
Both Uber-Brit Jimmy Buchan and Scottish Fishermans Federation CEO Bertie Armstrong are vocal supporters of the end of the Common Fisheries Policy and Brexit.
They of course have an axe to grind. They don't represent "Fishers" (as though that was a monolithic bloc). They represent themselves and their own interests. Even at that they don't do overly well.
If Jimmy Buchan imagines that Westminster will go to war with Spain to protect his right to bash prawns without restriction he's even more loopy than Michael Howard.
History repeats itself we are told. First as tragedy then as farce. We had the "War of Jenkins' Ear". Let's not bother with the "War of Buchan's Prawns".
